I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I come from a musical family. My brother was a clarinetist and my sister, a pianist and music arranger.
I am a graduate of UCLA. My husband is a USC alumnus….so we say we have a mixed marriage! We have two sons, both guitarists. My love of country music must have rubbed-off as my sons play Fender Telecasters, Stratocasters, Gretsch, and Gibson Les Pauls.
From the age of 4 years old, I played the piano. I learned the stand-up bass and while I was growing up played in a junior symphony. I took bass lessons from a famous teacher, Herman Reinsagen. Many young classical bassists now have learned from his students.
When I was in high school, I could not get an audition with a symphony orchestra. They would not audition a female bass player and would not hesitate to tell you so when you contacted them. If you are a fan of the symphony now, you will rarely find a female bass player. Included in this travesty is the Los Angeles philharmonic, Berlin symphony ..and it seems a majority of the other symphonies too! In fact, I hardly ever spot any female bassists.
After graduating from UCLA, I was a high school teacher for twelve years. After I was married, I started to play the electric bass. I have been influenced by Jaco Pastorius and other jazz bassists. I am a fan of Carol Kaye and was fortunate to take lessons from her. She is a renowned studio musician who played the bass on countless TV tracks. She was the bassist on the theme songs of many of the older shows, such as the original Hawaii Five-o, and Peter Gunn. Bunny Brunel was one of my teachers. This famous bassist played with Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and many others.
My custom Steinberger and factor “fretless basses” are my shining stars! I love many different kinds of music. However, my favorites are country, jazz and classical. My dad loved western films and country “western” music…..I grew up on a diet of John Wayne films and whatever western movies were in the movie theaters each week. My parents rode horses and as a kid I always saw their boots lined up in the hall. My brother and sister were quite a few years older than me. My brother kept a horse in the empty lot next door to us in LA…..try doing that now!!
As my father was a fan of country music, our radio was tuned to “country western” music (as my dad called it)..as well as to classical and jazz. My head is always full of music (my husband says that many times I hum in my sleep), for the last several years, I have been composing country music and jazz. I compose both the music and lyrics.
You will hear that my country music caters to strong women. However, many of my songs are written for male singers too. Toby Keith’s patriotic songs, Lee Greenwood, Reba McEntire, and many others are my favorites. I was inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA”. You would call me a true American patriot. I hope you enjoy my song “The Patriot.” I also believe in the 2nd amendment rights of citizens and the right for women and men to defend themselves. My family are members of the National Rifle and Pistol Association (NRA) and the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA).
Please keep checking my Web site as several other songs are “on the way.” I think that you will enjoy them.
